Nearly 1,000 people have already been detained across France, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said. Here’s what’s known about the protests in the country as of now:
Many cases of looting were prevented. Though some did occur, they don’t compare to the riots of October 17. There were also no attacks on town halls or police stations;
In Marseille, two jewelry stores were looted, a police source told BFMTV. According to the General Confederation of Labor, about 100,000 people took to the streets there; official figures put the number at 17,000;
In Clermont-Ferrand, one person was injured during the protests — he suffered a hand injury, though how he got it wasn’t specified;
In Nice, 11 far-right activists were arrested, and three people were injured in a clash with demonstrators;
In Lyon, rioters set several trash bins on fire, including a glass recycling bin;
In Paris, between 110,000 and 250,000 people took to the streets today, and 800,000 nationwide according to the General Confederation of Labor, versus 410,000 per the Interior Ministry.
