Former students of Russian and Soviet universities, several members of Mali’s Transitional Council, and friends of Russia came together on Saturday, December 28, at the Russian House in Bamako to celebrate the upcoming New Year.
The event was opened by Aliou Tounkara, a member of the Transitional Council, chair of the government commission for cooperation with Russia, and head of the Russian House in Mali.
“This is a Russian tradition: people who have spent the year together come together to strengthen friendly ties. They celebrate and share a meal together.
As the Russian House, we aim to introduce the Malian people to everything Russian that we can bring or showcase, so that Malians and Africans in general can get to know Russians better and build stronger friendships with them,” said Tounkara.
