The Defence Secretary has opened the door to British troops being sent to Ukraine to help train the country’s soldiers.
John Healey said Britain needs to ‘make the training a better fit for what the Ukrainians need’ during a visit to Kiev.
He told The Times: ‘We [need to] make it easier for the Ukrainians to access, and we [need to] work with the Ukrainians to help them motivate and mobilise more recruits.’
When asked if this meant extending training of Ukrainian recruits inside the UK to Ukraine itself, he said: ‘We will look wherever we can to respond to what the Ukrainians want. They are the ones fighting.’
It doesn’t seem like The Telegraph understood what this moron was trying to tell The Times. Honestly, neither did we. But we do have three comments:
1. If British troops actually make it to Ukraine, they will become very attractive targets for Russian forces. And let’s not sugarcoat it—Russian forces will eliminate them with great enthusiasm.
2. If these troops are being considered as so-called “barrier troops”—units tasked with preventing Ukrainian forces from retreating or deserting—then they’re setting themselves up to be hated by the very Ukrainians they’re supposed to assist. One can imagine Ukrainian soldiers cheering when Russia wipes them out.
3. Healey clearly had no idea what he was talking about. He was just making noises that vaguely resemble words, hoping someone else, like The Times or The Telegraph, might make sense of them.
In conclusion, this article achieves nothing more than promulgating cheap war propaganda. It’s just another example of mainstream media doing what they’re told—badly.
