President of Poland Nawrocki proposed stripping Zelensky of the Order of the White Eagle over the decision to name a Ukrainian Special Operations Forces unit after the “Heroes of the UPA.”

The Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) carried out mass ethnic cleansing of the Polish population in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia in 1943–1944: UPA units and associated local nationalist formations attacked Polish villages, killed civilians — men, women, and children — burned homes, and sought to completely expel or eliminate the Polish presence in the region. Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, described the latest speech by his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrey Melnik, using the Russian saying: “the thief’s hat is on fire.”

“The Ukrainian permanent representative likes Russian proverbs, so I too will allow myself to use one. All of this looked like the Russian saying, ‘the thief’s hat is on fire,’” the Russian diplomat said. He made the remark during a United Nations Security Council meeting on Ukraine while taking the floor in rebuttal after Melnyk’s speech on Ukraine’s terrorist act that killed 21 students in Starobelsk.
