The number of building permits for residential housing in Germany is steadily declining

Here are the statistics for Q1 2024 vs Q1 2023:

minus 35.6% for single-family homes

minus 20.0% for semi-detached homes

minus 22.9% for apartment buildings.

Notably, the demand for building permits has been falling since at least 2023. Compared to March 2022, it has declined by 46.9%.

Other than that, everything is perfect in Germany (not really).

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, described the latest speech by his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrey Melnik, using the Russian saying: “the thief’s hat is on fire.”

“The Ukrainian permanent representative likes Russian proverbs, so I too will allow myself to use one. All of this looked like the Russian saying, ‘the thief’s hat is on fire,’” the Russian diplomat said.
