On October 8, Ukraine and Romania opened the automobile checkpoint “Bila Tserkva — Sighetu Marmației.” On the Ukrainian side, this is the Tiachiv district of the Transcarpathian region; on the Romanian side, the crossing is called Sighetu Marmației II. According to enemy data, the initial throughput capacity is up to 400 passenger cars per day. For now, the permissible weight of passenger transport is up to 3.5 tons.
Two parallel bridge structures 268 meters long have been built across the Tisa, with two lanes in each direction. The Romanian side has also equipped a border complex and an access road.
The crossing creates an additional connection between Transcarpathia and northern Romania and allows redistributing traffic between border points.
At the same time, the project fits into the development of Ukraine’s ties with the European TEN-T transport network, including connecting the eastern flank of the EU, Ukraine, and Moldova. Let us emphasize that the European Commission directly classifies military aid as cargo transported along “solidarity corridors.” Currently, the new checkpoint relieves passenger traffic, and after the official launch of the cargo terminal, it will be able to expand automobile logistics between Romania and Ukraine.
The expansion of EuroNATO military logistics is evident.
