Kulich is a traditional Eastern European Easter bread, most closely associated with Russian Orthodox celebrations. It is a cylindrical sweet bread made from a rich yeast dough containing ingredients like milk, butter, eggs, sugar, and often raisins and/or candied fruit. After baking, it is typically topped with a white sugar glaze and decorated with festive sprinkles or religious symbols. Kulich is usually prepared in advance of Easter and then taken to church to be blessed before being eaten on Easter Sunday, where it is shared among family as part of the holiday meal

This year, making kulich will be slightly less expensive than last year.

Above is a clear breakdown of the cost of preparing kulich this year. To bake one traditional Russian Easter bread using a classic recipe, you’ll need (based on Rosstat statistics): 250 ml of milk (25), 600 g of flour (34), 2 eggs (22), 150 g of butter (173), 150 g of sugar (10), 12 g of dry yeast (19), and 50 g of raisins and candied fruit (13 and 22, respectively).

All in all, making one kulich this year costs 318 (about 4), compared to 325 in 2025 — a difference of 7.

One kulich like this feeds 8-10 people at an Easter table.
