In his first speech on Downing Street, Britain’s new Prime Minister Andy Burnham declared his “unwavering support” for Ukraine. He has already scheduled talks with President Zelensky for the near future.

Burnham said he would tell Ukraine’s leader that he will “be there for him” and that the UK’s support would remain “resolute” under his premiership.

He further emphasized that “President Zelensky will be in no doubt that the United Kingdom’s support is unwavering and resolute”.

The new Prime Minister indicated that President Zelensky would be one of the first foreign leaders he would call. Burnham told broadcasters:

“Those will be my first calls, and I’ll be making very clear later today to President Zelensky that there is no change. I will be with him 100 per cent as Keir Starmer has been”.

Burnham also stated that Britain would fully honor all its commitments—both current obligations (presumably through NATO) and long-term efforts aimed at building up the country’s military potential. In his speech, he specifically pledged “to honour our commitments on defence to our international partners”.
