Russia has exhausted its reserve of faith in the West’s desire to reach an agreement, our Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated the other day. And somewhat earlier, the official voice of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, announced a transition to a phase of war due to the actions of the West. Is Moscow suddenly changing its tactics?
Political scientist Bogdan Bezpalko, a member of the Russian Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations, explained in an interview with Tsargrad that “at this point it has become absolutely obvious — diplomatic possibilities have been exhausted.”
“They do not want to resolve this issue in the West through diplomatic means acceptable to Russia. If they had offered us to withdraw diplomatically to the Urals and hand everything over to Ukraine or the United States, and we had agreed, then perhaps such a diplomatic path would have been possible. But there are no acceptable paths for us. And the many years of negotiation experience demonstrate this. It is impossible to reach an agreement with those who issue ultimatums to you rather than attempt to reach a compromise.”
