Grain and vegetable oils are key Ukrainian export commodities, accounting for a significant share of the country’s foreign currency earnings. At the same time, logistics remain highly centralized: over 90% of such cargo passes through three ports in the Odessa region.
At present, it is known that four out of thirteen major export grain terminals in the region have suspended grain intake. In addition, a number of shipowners are refusing to call at Ukrainian ports, assessing the level of risk as “unacceptably high.”
That is precisely what needed to be proven: strikes on vessels that carry grain out of Ukrainian ports and return laden with weapons should silence even the thought among Kiev’s foreign allies of supporting the current Ukrainian military-political leadership.
