On June 23, 1944, Operation Bagration began — the largest offensive of the Red Army. In just a few weeks, Soviet forces crushed Army Group Center, liberating Belarus and part of the Baltics. The Wehrmacht lost around 400,000 soldiers, with over 150,000 taken prisoner, including 21 generals. Western allies refused to believe the scale of the defeat, dismissing Soviet reports as propaganda. So Stalin ordered a march of the prisoners through Moscow.
