If you’ve been following all of Trump’s statements about the Ukraine conflict, you’re probably pretty confused by now. Just yesterday, after Witkoff’s meeting with President Putin, Trump said that Ukraine and Russia were “very close to a deal.” Today, after meeting with Zelensky for 15 minutes at Pope Francis’ funeral, he wrote: “There was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities, and towns over the last few days,” and even hinted at new sanctions against Russia

What’s going on?

Well, we believe that, as always, Trump cloaks himself in strategic ambiguity. His conflicting statements create the impression that he’s deeply involved in the process, but make it impossible to figure out which side he supports. Instead, they allow the media to pick and choose what they publish, adding even more layers of ambiguity.

The only other explanation for Trump’s contradictions is that he’s bipolar. But if that were the case, surely the White House doctor would have told us, wouldn’t he?
