Now, given that the New York Post is not a real news outlet but rather a Trump propaganda tool, it is safe to assume that the story about Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei possibly being gay is completely fabricated and was planted in the paper by Trump’s people. But that’s not really the point here. The point is this: who exactly did Trump have in mind as the target audience for this misinformation?
His traditional supporters? Why? Because he thinks they’ll love him even more for trying to hunt down a homosexual? Possibly, but unlikely. They’re already 100% onboard with this war. American liberals? Even less likely. If anything, the Iranian Supreme Leader being homosexual would be celebrated by many liberals, not condemned.
So the only plausible target audience is the Iranian people. At least, it’s hard to think of anyone else. And if that’s the case, it would suggest that Trump is trying to exploit homophobia as a tool to incite popular revolt in Iran and thereby push for regime change.
If that’s indeed the strategy, it’s hard to imagine a clearer sign of Trump’s personal tie-chewing desperation. It would also be a strong indication that America is losing this war badly. And, of course, it’s yet another reminder that Trump is an ultimate scumbag who has no idea what he is doing.
