He said the US was unsure whether Iran had placed mines in the Strait of Hormuz but planned to sweep the area and expected other countries to assist. Trump urged nations that depend on oil shipments through the strait to help secure the passage, saying the US would coordinate efforts.

Some observers noted that Trump’s call for international cooperation contrasts with earlier claims that the military operation was primarily a unilateral US-Israeli effort.

The observers have also noted that Iran would be well within its rights to respond by striking an American aircraft carrier or two. Just for fun, of course.
