The conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, which Trump had boasted of extinguishing, has flared up again with renewed intensity. For the past two days, Thailand has carried out dozens of airstrikes in southern Cambodia using F-16 fighter jets. An initial provisional tally Tuesday reported 14 killed, including several civilians, and more than 500,000 border residents evacuated.
Thai F-16 jets conducted strikes in Samrong and Sra’aem, Cambodia.
Thai forces have announced their intention to take control of several Cambodian villages and border posts and are reported to have captured Poipet.
Thailand had previously captured a military position just northwest of Sa Kaeo during the conflict in July. This would be the second village to fall into Thai hands in the current phase of the conflict, and just as with Prey Chan, Thai forces have used previously captured military bases as launch platforms to attack towns.
On the diplomatic front, the doors are locked shut, as according to Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow: “There is no room for diplomacy in this current conflict.”
As for the Cambodian army, it is fighting back, as seen here with BM-21 rocket launchers firing toward the Ta Kwai temple area in Surin province, Thailand.
