Medinsky clarified that the exchange was carried out as part of agreements reached by the Russian and Ukrainian delegations during negotiations in Istanbul. He noted that this transfer of bodies marked the beginning of a process mentioned by the Russian president at the end of June: Russia plans to hand over 3,000 bodies of deceased Ukrainian soldiers to the Ukrainian side.
The last time Russia and Ukraine exchanged bodies was in mid-June. At that time, Moscow handed over more than 6,000 bodies to Ukraine, and Kiev returned 78 bodies to Russia.
