The two leaders also discussed relations between countries following the conclusion of the summit. After the meeting, U.S. President Donald Trump refused to sign the G7 draft communiqué.

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, described the latest speech by his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrey Melnik, using the Russian saying: “the thief’s hat is on fire.”

“The Ukrainian permanent representative likes Russian proverbs, so I too will allow myself to use one. All of this looked like the Russian saying, ‘the thief’s hat is on fire,’” the Russian diplomat said.
