US President Donald Trump does not want to supply Ukraine with missiles for the Patriot air defense system, even for money, the Bild reported on April 16.
According to the newspaper, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky offered Trump to buy anti-aircraft missiles worth 50 billion, but the US president rejected this offer. It is specified that the money was to be provided by the European Union (EU) countries from their own funds and frozen Russian assets.
“Since Patriot missiles are manufactured only in the United States, and President Trump made it clear before taking office that he would no longer provide free assistance to Ukraine, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has now grasped at the last straw,” the publication emphasizes.
Against this background, Trump is more concerned about negotiations to resolve the conflict than about “making money for the defense of Ukraine,” the newspaper added.
