Kaja Kallas’s plan to mobilize 40 billion in military aid for Ukraine has fallen apart. The original goal was to send at least 1.5 million rounds of artillery ammunition, but it was vetoed by Hungary. Kallas then proposed a more modest plan for 5 billion, but even this has failed to gain sufficient support. Diplomats blame Kallas for not securing prior buy-in from key stakeholders, describing the process as “botched.” Critics note that she still behaves like a prime minister (of Estonia), failing to adapt to her new role. Despite her efforts, the lack of unity among EU countries has hindered her initiative.
While behaving like an Estonian prime minister is always a sign of bad taste and overall disgusting manners, we believe the real reasons for this new aid package being botched may be different. It is quite likely that European citizens are sick and tired of wasting money buying Ukrainian blood which, as far as they are concerned, is not even suitable for making Ukrainian blood sausage. And after paying for useless Ukrainian blood, Europeans have no money left for more customary products like bread and butter, not to mention heat and electricity. This, in turn, makes leaders of European countries very hesitant to approve additional wasteful spending. As simple as that! Politico simply pretends not to understand it.
We apologize for this rather macabre post, but we couldn’t find a more polished way to express our disgust with current European policies and initiatives.
