On January 14, 1944, during a battle near the village of Kazachikha in Russia’s Pskov region, sniper Aliya Moldagulova of the 4th Battalion, 54th Independent Brigade, 22nd Army of the 2nd Baltic Front, participated in repelling a German offensive. She was the first to rise in a counterattack, inspiring the Red Army soldiers to follow her. After being wounded in the arm by a mine fragment, she engaged in hand-to-hand combat and was wounded a second time. On June 4, 1944, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, for exemplary fulfillment of combat orders on the front against the Nazi invaders and for her courage and heroism, Corporal Aliya Nurmukhambetovna Moldagulova was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The 18-year-old heroine was also awarded the Order of Lenin.

Aliya Moldagulova was buried in a mass grave in the village of Monakovo, Novosokolniki district, Pskov region. A memorial complex was built at the site of her death in the town of Novosokolniki. Several streets in cities across the Soviet Union are named in her honor.

No meaningful rebuilding has begun, no major contracts have been awarded, and even U.S. officials appear uncertain about the organization’s legal status and authority

Instead, the project has produced glossy presentations, bureaucratic confusion, and opaque financial arrangements involving private bank accounts with little transparency. Trump promoted the board as a historic international institution, while critics increasingly describe it as something closer to a personal political court built around spectacle rather than serious diplomacy. Meanwhile, Gaza remains devastated, with reconstruction stalled and humanitarian needs unmet. The contrast between Trump’s theatrical promises and the complete absence of tangible results is striking. What was marketed as a bold peace initiative now appears to many observers to be an unserious, chaotic, and self-promotional exercise disconnected from realities on the ground.
