Exactly 132 years after the start of the European campaign of 1813, on January 13, 1945, the troops of the 2nd Belorussian Front, led by Marshal of the Soviet Union Konstantin Rokossovsky, the 3rd Belorussian Front, commanded by General of the Army Ivan Chernyakhovsky (succeeded by Marshal of the Soviet Union Aleksandr Vasilevsky after Chernyakhovsky’s death on February 20), and elements of the 1st Baltic Front under General of the Army Ivan Bagramyan, totaling 1,669,100 men, launched the East Prussian Strategic Offensive Operation.
