Big news: jaywalking is now legal in New York City!

We are not kidding, and mainstream media is buzzing with the details:

The City Council passed a law legalizing jaywalking, which went into effect when Mayor Eric Adams chose neither to sign nor veto it. Pedestrians can now cross the street wherever they like—even against traffic signals—reversing a ban in place since 1958. The goal? To address racial disparities, as most jaywalking citations were issued to black and latino individuals.

    Here’s the takeaway:

Statistics show black and latino New Yorkers were fined more often for jaywalking than whites. Naturally, this was attributed to racist law enforcement—because suggesting they might just jaywalk more frequently would be unthinkable and politically incorrect.

A fine example of simple, honest, and effective governance, right?
