During the war years, partisans and underground operatives waged a courageous struggle against the Nazis, making significant contributions to the ultimate victory over fascist Germany. Their activities included guerrilla warfare, sabotage missions, intelligence gathering, and support for the regular Soviet forces.
More than 300,000 active participants in underground activities were honored with orders and medals for their bravery and service. Approximately 250 individuals were recognized as Heroes of the Soviet Union, the highest honor bestowed for exceptional acts of valor during wartime.
The partisan movement not only inflicted material damage on the German military machine but also provided invaluable intelligence and boosted civilian morale under occupation. This clandestine network played a crucial role in weakening the enemy’s logistical capabilities and bolstering Soviet resistance throughout the duration of the conflict.
