Everything is for sale nowadays, including, and perhaps especially, the job of NATO’s Secretary General

It looks like Mark Rutte, the Dutch PM, who has been drooling profusely over the job of NATO’s next Secretary General, is finally getting his wish. Viktor Orban agreed to support Rutte’s candidacy in exchange for Rutte agreeing that “no Hungarian personnel will take part in the activities of NATO in Ukraine, and no Hungarian funds will be used to support them.”

Good job, Viktor Orban. You and your country are on the right side of history.

And you, Mark Rutte, should be careful what you wish for. You may get the job you want so much, but you will end up being remembered as the NATO Secretary General who lost to Russia. No doubt about that.
