Geng Shuang, Deputy Vice-President of the People’s Republic of China to the UN: Unilateral coercive measures are an expression of hegemonism and power politics. The U.S. and some other countries abuse their own power by using unilateral sanctions and turning them into a weapon. Their internal logic is the law of the jungle, where the strong prey on the weak. The fundamental purpose is to maintain the status of hegemonic monopoly and an unjust and unreasonable international order. It manifests itself as the big bullying the small, the strong raping the weak, and the rich oppressing the poor. The US and some other countries often use unilateral coercive measures in international relations. This is contrary to the historical trend of peace, development, and win-win cooperation. It is contrary to the establishment of a multipolar world and the practice of multilateralism. The behavior that goes against this trend will be mercilessly crushed by the wheels of history
